I booked afternoon tea for two for my friends birthday and it did not disappoint. We had four little sandwiches each with various fillings. Four sweet treats and a scone with jam and cream plus unlimited tea and coffee. Lovely food and friendly hard working staff. We had a wander around the farm shop and the animals. For a small fee you can feed the animals. It’s changed a lot since my last visit and definitely worth a visit with children.
First time visit, stopped off here for meat on my way home and it was ridiculously expensive and it was also gone off when I got home and opened it, won't be going again its just a expensive middle man by the looks of it, they must of give me the old stuff 👍
Cracking place to visit. Breakfast in the restaurant was spot on.Great selection of local produce. Pies and pastries galore. Addicted to ploughmans pork pies.
Expensive place but real quality throughout. One of the nicest places we've ever stopped off at on the way home from anywhere. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again
My wife who uses a wheelchair was invited to our granddaughters baby shower. She discovered when she got there it was upstairs in the cafe with no accessibleity so she was plonked on a table downstairs alongside my daughter and other granddaughter away from the main group no effort was made to find an alternative where they could have been together .Facilities for the disabled are very poor
Absolutely no accessibility provisions for people in wheelchairs at the restaurant. There's a ramp leading up to it but no way for someone in a wheelchair to open the doors on their own, and a huge ridge in the doorways that took a lot of work to get over in the wheelchair. Was booked for a baby shower which was in the closed off area upstairs, and the person booking it for our party had asked if there was wheelchair accessibility to get upstairs and were told that there was a lift, which turned out to be a lie. This left an old lady in tears as she couldn't celebrate the baby shower of her first great grandchild and was stuck downstairs away from the rest of the party with two of us sat downstairs with her. Even the "disabled parking" is just normal parking spaces with a disabled sign in front of it, no space to allow for people in wheelchairs to get in and out, luckily we managed to get parked at the end of the row however this was on a. Big slope which made getting in and out of the car difficult. Completely spoiled what should have been a special occasion. The afternoon tea was nice and the staff were lovely but it doesn't make up for being lied to. Had they been honest and upfront when it was booked then we could have booked somewhere that was wheelchair friendly.
Lovely food, nice selection of neKs and light bites.Nice atmosphere in the cafeFarm shop well stocked with lots of lovely cakes, meats, pre-prepared meals
First visit today with my 2 year old. He loved the farm. We fed the goats and they were very gentle. Breakfast in the restaurant was fantastic. The staff were really friendly. The only thing it’s missing is a play area/couple of swings as it was a bit cold and wet for the sand pit where you have to take your shoes off
Busy and attractively presented, with a large selection of quality food and drink. The premium prices which reflect the excellent quality and provenance of the locally sourced goods.
An amazing mix of groceries under one roof. Fresh meat from the farm or locally sourced producers, Fish and shellfish, fruit and veg, baked goods and deli items. Lovely restaurant (often v busy) and hot food and sandwiches to takeaway from the deli counter. Also offers click and collect, and drive through options. Children's area with farm based activities. This is a regular stop if we are travelling up the M1, and we are always glad to make the short detour. Highly recommend.
I personally wouldn't visit again I'm pretty much 50/50 lots of positives the petting park for young kids is great the sand pit loads of picnic tables and all looks amazing on arrival friendly staff ..went for food in the main restaurant (not booked )to be told there would be at least a half hour wait according to the computer plenty of empty tables wasn't given the option for outside didn't see this area until we had walked around..so had a decent sandwich in the takeaway part ..but I really went for the farm shop itself which is incredibly expensive I get they have huge overheads, staff and facilities etc ..but the prices are literally almost triple what you would pay elsewhere..and im not just talking about supermarkets
Excellent Sunday lunch, enjoy visiting BHF for various things. Knives need to be sharpened and plates should be warmed, but small issue as overall excellent.
This could have been a lovely hour or so instead a bit of a let down. The first experience to let the farm shop down was the carpark total gridlock cars parking wherever they liked some dangerously so, looked for disabled bays couldn't see any cars where parked on the roads outside making it dangerous to exit. It was advertised as Yorkshire day so packed went for the stalls they had promised about 8 small stalls very uninspiring items for sale. We decided to eat at the Restaurant we waited a good 8 minutes to be told by a very snappy lady who informed us all tables booked hardly oneone upstairs and most of the outside free when I said it would have been nice to know it was booking only I was told well you should know it's been like this for years it was our first visit not very good customer service. Farm shop very expensive ok don't mind that if it's good quality it's for a treat although the 2 pies we bought where nice definitely not worth the nearly £9 cost but the lady on the pie counter was lovely a complete credit to you. All in all could be a fantastic place but really needs to be thought out better
Prices are somewhat high, but perhaps in a good cause, British farmers. Good parking. But the pork pie I treated myself to had gristle, dampening my ardore, damped in shop by the oppressively loud radio, whatever. Folk should have enough silence to think, I think.
On arrival had to wait for staff to finish their conversation before being acknowledged and then told to find a table. We waited an age to order eventually calling a member of staff over. My wife asked to order a fruit scone but was told they did not do them only plain scones with cream and jam but asked if she wanted a fruit teacake instead! They had an offer of coffee and cake for £5.50 on the menu but I was overcharged and when I queried it they told me the bill was correct. What a diabolical experience
Visited this place whilst visiting our daughter. Lunch was lovely and reasonable in the courtyard kitchen , but the farm shop is expensive. It looks lovely, but sorry you are too dear.
We have been for Sunday lunch several times now, and on every occasion it has been excellent. Home produced beef with all the trimmings great portions, melt in the mouth, served by very well trained and friendly staff, 2 courses plus bottle of wine for 2 people - less than £60 - great value.
Having been previously, I've never had any issues and would have given 5 stars. However, today's visited has changed that and we probably wouldn't return in a hurry. Initially went to the Barn Kitchen. Didn't have a table booked but there were plenty of spare tables inside and out. Told the last unbooked table had just gone and that we would have to wait 45 minutes for the next one to be available due to bookings. Fair enough, and with a small child we chose not to wait and instead take up their offer of the takeaway courtyard. The courtyard area was very busy, with the pizza kitchen and courtyard kitchen both open for food. Music was blaring and at that point we should have made the decision to go elsewhere, but we didn't. We ordered two pizzas and a little farmer lunch box (price inflated from the sign in the little farmer's trail area at the back of the Barn Kitchen). The lunch box was very disappointing. Our child, who eats everything, would not touch the sandwich, dry bread, floury cheese and all. This was not a good sandwich for £3. For a farm venue, we expected better. Luckily, she ate the fruit and drank the juice, then had to share some of our pizza when it arrived. The pizza itself was fine, but we felt it overpriced. After eating, we had a look at the farmer's trail at the back, where we noticed the price inconsistency as mentioned earlier. We also noticed a myriad of free tables outside, as there had been when we initially arrived. Due to where we had sat to eat, we could see how many people were entering and exiting the barn and at no point was the whole eating area full, either inside or out. This was a thoroughly disappointing visit and I don't think we'd come back.
Service good, must have changed sausages to cheap ones, don't mind paying higher price for quality. Won't be having breakfast again as it's not value for money everything is over priced
Been for afternoon tea with a voucher that I was given as a Christmas present with a value of £42 and when I went to pay I was charged an extra £2 because the price had gone up since it was bought. The sandwich’s and scones were ok but the rest of the cake selection was very poor. I would not recommend it to anyone as it was not very good value for money.
Last couple of times I’ve been I was unable to get a table. I suppose you need to book in advance. Little annoying though as there were plenty of empty tables and the manager wasn't particularly helpful, no offer to wait or eat outside for instance. I won’t be going back sadly. I appreciate you probably need to book in advance but that doesn’t suit me, I don’t tend know in advance when I want a breakfast on a sunday morning, it’s more of an impulse for me. Will go somewhere else in future to avoid disappointment.
Quick visit for a coffee and ice cream with our granddaughter. Staff so friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome. Lovely coffee. Reasonably priced
Farm shop is excellent, Barn Kitchen has amazing food, but the real gem is the farmers trail! Jen who staffs the trail is passionate and informative, been twice now and Jen remembered me and made both visits excellent! The lamb feeding was an incredible experience! Jen gave us information about the animals and their care. Blacker Hall clearly cares about their animal welfare, all animals are well looked after! Definitely worth a visit and we will certainly be back! Thanks to Jen!
Visited for Little Farmers, it was really good - my only suggestion would be to make the food cheaper to feed the animals with. The shop itself is great but really really overpriced and the sausage roll gave my son and husband an upset stomach.
Plenty of good quality stock in all the various shops, you could actually do your weeks shopping here (if you were quite well off) Plenty of parking & the cafe is well worth a visit too 👍
Visited here to go for breakfast. Sadly it was very busy so we decided we would return another day. Did some shopping in their great farm shop. We tried their takeaway Sunday lunches. Pulled pork, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, carrots and swede with gravy. The other choice was Pulled Beef Brisket. Really good generous portions,.all well cooked and good value for money. We would recommend.😊
Really Amazing place to buy, to eat and have fun for less and the best quality.A really big complete whole meal and natural Market. You can buy Hi home made products, eat in the kitchen Restaurant inside or just have a coffee.Have an animal farm ideal for kids and big kids and a pinch your own place not the biggest, but it's free.
Great place for kids. The petting area had some really friendly staff who were happy to help. Lamb feeding, calf feeding by bottle were a great experience (at a cost). You could buy food to feed pigs, goats and sheep. We had some lunch in the kitchen barn which was okay. Chips were thin and hard but the burger meet was nice. Small portion for the price!! Could do with some more play things for the kids.Overall a good experience
