Mainsgill Farm Shop is more than just a shop; it’s an experience, providing a unique mix of quality local produce, artisanal foods, and family fun.
This place is beautiful inside. The food is excellent. It is not far from Scotch Corner (on the A66) and well worth the detour if you are on the A1(M).
I absolutely love this farm shop everything about it is fantastic the food the gifts the animals the staff it's an amazing place best farm shop in uk I think I go once a month and my God if I lived nearer I would be there every week
Dangerous location to get out of,Left the shop after a few minutes with nothing as couldn’t be chewed with being followed around the shop being looked up and down like a criminal by a blonde curly haired lady staff member 😂Place has gone right down hill since the extension. Last time for me thanks.
Always a good place to stop especially if it’s not too busy. Nice shop, good toilets, animals to see, and a good outdoor space. Perfect stop on a long trip.
Stopped for a break while passing through the area. Great choice, prices vary but something for everyone. Dog friendly outside and plenty of space to exercise the pooch.
Huge farm shop, lots to buy, somethings r expensive some reasonable. Fresh meats and products a huge variety. We bought pork pie and sausage rolls, these were disappointing not very tasty and very dry, I would not buy them again, however, we had bacon butties in the cafe and cream cake these were very good and there was a good selection of food on offer, efficient and service was good. We spent a few hours here looking around the shop, cafe and looking at the farm animals. All in all a great place to stop off at for a bite to eat but think twice about the pies!!
Stopped here for a break on our journey to Falkirk and boy what a gem it is. There's a cafe, farm shop, gifts and a few different animals to see. Well worth stopping if you're passing
The biggest farm shop we have ever visited, 2 floors. To be honest, the ground floor is a farm shop, while upstairs is more like a department store. Expensive taste catered for on that floor.Great selection of fruit and vegetables along with large butchers counter. Also, a large selection of other food items. In store cafe.Car park is a good size but rough ground and no spaces marked, so some cars park with total disregard for anyone else.
Only a pit stop. Car park is not made for trip bus's. Very clean, well set out to the shops cheese meat sandwiches pies and clothes garden furniture. friendly staff 45 mins stop off. And some animals and a out side picnic Nick area. Dog friendly very busy
Fabulous selection of meats, cheeses, dairy, prepped food, deli items, pies, patisserie and so much more. Shop carefully as the prices range from very reasonable (90p for a lovely fresh loaf) to outrageous (£7.25 for a filled egg mayo sub) We shopped for food items and ate in the cafe on our journey to and from Scotland. Again, choose carefully … I paid over £12 for a Serrano ham salad which had one slice of Serrano ham on it but paid less than £10 for a mix of beef & ham sandwiches served with a large portion of chips and side salad. The cakes looked amazing but we somehow resisted. Two ladies loo cubicles were out of action due to “locks not working” and 7 days later, the situation was the same. There was no loo roll but 3 empty rolls in my cubicle which suggested the loos hadn’t been attended to for some time. The quality and range of products make this a 5* destination but the pricing and lack of attention to the loos have marked it down.
Great place for a stop on the A66, with a play area for children and a variety of animals to see, plenty of space for a wander round, not to mention the farm shop, café and gift shop.
Had a full english breakfast , and I had to ask for bacon to be cooked. Never had raw bacon before was awful , Coffee was lovely ,farm shop with lovely food in it .
Lovely place to stop off at with family.Farm animals, also camels.Great shopping upstairs, and food hall downstairs with a cafe selling massive cakes and ice cream
Lovely shop, cafe and nursery, with some animals out in the fields, so people can see them close up. Cajes are to die for! The only drawback is that the whole place is very expensive.
All the food we got was binned. The pork pies with apple top is disgusting. 3 sandwiches had no teast. 2 patta paste was also disgusting. On the ok side yes there had alot of other nice things that is not food but its way way over priced. We are deffo not going back.
Amazing farmshop! This place is absolutely huge with lots of fantastic quality home, garden, gifts, food and beverages. Well worth a few walk around and beautifully displayed. Lovely staff, and they also have some discounted items that are very reasonably priced. Highly recommend a visit if you're driving by.
Huge farm shop with a large open unmarked car park.Accessible entrance and has a lift to get to the first floor. There is plenty of room on the shop floor to turn a wheelchair or pushchair without feeling restricted. This place is for spending a bit of time in.On the ground floor, there is fresh fruit/ vegetables, a deli counter, a butcher counter, and a baked treat area to browse, then you walk into the gift shop area... I spent the most in here on buying some unusual items to take back home for my family! The cafe is also on this floor. On the first floor are clothing and household items, anything from blankets, kitchen wear to art prints and satin flowers....quite an eclectic mix!Outside you can go and see the animals but we didn't do that on the day we went.
A huge place with a plethora of things to see and buy. Nice little niche gifts to purchase.Like most farm shops I did feel the prices were very high. We had coffee and cake here which was a good 20% higher than other places and the cake looked better than it tasted. It's a busy place so you may struggle to get seated.
The largest farm shop I’ve seen well worth a visit. A good selection of food and many other household items nicely displayed. A nice cafe/restaurant area too to sit and relax enjoying a bite to eat too reasonably priced.
The shop is nice and well stocked but the cafe was dire. I can imagine people being impressed by the look of it but I don't understand the 4.5 star reviews here.4 adults and a 5yo was £70 for breakfast. Food was okay but I'd class it as the McDonald's of Farm shops.Fast service (amazing considering the place was packed) but the food was bland and slapped together. Black pudding was dried out (had clearly sat for a long time). Sausages were "okay" (though the dog wouldn't eat them - he ate around them to get the bread/butter). The eggs benny (the most expensive thing we got) was "common" which is saying a lot because I'm far from posh. The one slice of pie we got (lemon merengue) was Huge (nice) but the merengue was rock hard and the lemon was bitter (tasted like they'd made it with the rind in); couldn't finish it - I had 2 bites, wife had one, we left the rest.In the end we didn't spend much time in the shop because the cafe had left such a bad impression.I've been to many other farm shop cafes and the food was always excellent, flavourful and I didn't mind paying the higher prices for quality food.Next time we'll try the other two farm shops along the A66 (not coming back to Mainsgill).
I love stopping here for coffee and a scone rather than a service station. However today I ordered a flat white and rather than use the coffee machine they used filter coffee. So disappointing. I will ask specifically that they use the coffee machine next time.
I love stopping at this farm shop. It's full of delicious food. There is also a cafe that serves hot food. Sime good clothing and decorative itels as well. There is plenty of parking space. There are lots of animals as well - donkey, alpaca, goats, pigs, birds, cows, and even Shetland cows. I'm not sure about a camel, but I think they had one, too. Separate dog walking / resting area is well maintained and labelled.
Visited here on our way to the lakes.Amazing farm shop, good choice of foods. And a amazing gift shop upstairs.Called back in on our way home to get fresh veg and meats for Christmas diner.
Excellent place to spend a few hours. Ample parking, including disabled parking. Huge farm shop downstairs, huge clothing, and gift shop upstairs. Very reasonably priced well organised cafe with 2 seating areas. Clean toilets. All staff are pleasant and helpful. Dog walking area, children's play area, farm animals for viewing. The shops are expensive but this is a fantastic place if you wish to shop for a special occasion. All in all, it's a fantastic place to be.
Nice place to stop on the way to or from Cumbria. Bit pricey but then have a captive audience and profit shouldn't be an ugly word. We bought a pre butchered half a lamb for £115, which we thought was reasonable.
stop off on the way south - way too big to be a classic farm shop - generic produce rebadged to look local - fine if you like queues for a cafe and a mini zoo if that what passes for a day out for some people but disappointing on the whole - must be better, smaller, proper farmshops than this
I visited the farm shop recently and was charmed by its beauty and scenic views. However, it's disappointing that the shop isn't dog-friendly, especially considering the number of visitors with dogs. This limitation hinders the overall experience for pet owners who might want to enjoy a coffee or shop for goods. Hopefully, they consider making it more inclusive in the future.
First trip here. Always busy when i pass. The visit was between Christmas and New Year. Can recommend the Christmas shop, the farm food shop & the dog treats.
A great farm shop, with a difference. The farm shop has some great produce, and much bigger than a standard farm shop. It’s easy to find straight off the A66, access out is a little tricky when your turning right, patience is required.Mainsgill farm has some sort of mini Zoo, to keep the kids and dads entertained while the mums are shopping. It’s a brilliant place to see different animals, I’d certainly love to see them extend this bit.The shop and cafe offer a decent range, both local and from elsewhere. There’s much to see, and buy.
Didn't expect to see camels grazing in a North Yorkshire field on our way back from a holiday! We stopped here and had a really pleasant two hours looking at the farm animals and browsing around the shop. It's a proper working farm, and I saw sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys and llamas as well as the three camels. Much of the food in the farm shop is sourced from the farm or locally. There was a big butcher's counter full of choice cuts of meat, a great selection of cheeses and deli foods, fruit and veg, pasta, baked goods and more. It all looked high quality produce and very fresh. There were a lot of visitors, very long queue for the café so I did not eat there, but bought a freshly made sandwich, pork pie and quiche in the farm shop to take home. They cost that bit extra, but they were all delicious and excellent quality. Good selection of gifts, toys and chocolate treats too. Some great stuff for Halloween! Upstairs, there's some lovely clothing, accessories, homewares and Christmas decorations. Staff were courteous and helpful. There's a lift and accessible downstairs toilets. Plenty to keep kids happy, not only seeing the animals up close but also an outdoor play area and a Halloween pumpkin patch, and there was also a walking trail across fields with gorgeous views. More than enough to fill our two hours! I highly recommend a visit.
Outstanding. Great for kids and big kids.Shop is well stocked, great that the staff know their products. Kids loved the animals, especially the camels and emus. Just sorry we didn't get chance to try out the cafe, boys were impatient and today was extremely busy, will be back and try the cafe as meals looked scrumptious.
My favourite stop! Great animals and farm shop, good facilities too! The lady who made our coffee and served us take away was so lovely, the couple in front of us in the queue needed to learn some manners, remember to be nice to staff! Great cupcakes too!!
🌟4.5 Big for a farm shop, plenty choice of products and produce, friendly staaf as well, I had breakfast that was well cooked and presented, the coffee will get a strong 🌟3.95 but.The location is good as well as the shop is not far off the motorway. All in all pleasant experience.👍
