Blue Hills Farm Shop in Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire, is a delightful destination offering a range of fresh, locally sourced produce and goods. Here’s a breakdown of the different sections of the farm shop:
Butchers
The heart of Blue Hills Farm Shop is its butcher section, which has been providing quality farm meat since 1967. Their meat is all produced on the farm, allowing for lower prices and guaranteed quality. The shop offers a variety of meats including grass-fed beef, free-range pork, lamb, farmhouse dry-cured bacon, gammon, ham shanks, and sausages. Their beef is notably hung for 21 days to ensure tenderness and flavour.
Bakery
The bakery at Blue Hills Farm Shop is known for its delicious range of home-cooked food made using fresh, seasonal ingredients from the farm shop. Customers can indulge in freshly made fruit pies (apple, rhubarb, or gooseberry), fluffy fruit scones, homemade sponge cakes (Victoria sponge or chocolate), apple or rhubarb crumble, and cupcakes.
Fruit & Veg
While specific details about the fruit and veg section were not available from the current sources, farm shops like Blue Hills typically feature a variety of fresh, seasonal produce. These items are often locally sourced and offer a great selection for healthy, farm-to-table meals.
Café
The Hay Loft Café at Blue Hills Farm Shop provides a wide variety of home-cooked food, utilising fresh ingredients sourced from the farm shop. This café is a great spot for visitors to enjoy a meal in a rustic, farm-style setting.
Just an update on this, I spoke with a man over the phone today.Very polite and he just informed me that the Soft Play and Animal Barn is closed. It's just a farm shop now.The images and reviews of a soft play centre must be old and i would call before going down if you're looking for a soft play centre
The meats great the bakehouse products superb. The STAFF ARE UNBELIEVABLE YESTERDAY I ordered meat to fill my fridge it was delivered 2 hours later and I am 5 miles away. If you want value for money and old fashioned. Service this is the place
warm, friendly, family owned. one of best local playgyms to entertain. definitely value for money. farm shop, great prices & great Victoria sponge cakes. Cafe - value for money, farm quality served food, big portions.
This place is absolutely disgusting needs shutting if you ask me mouldy potatoes like never smelt nothing like it cakes dry defo 3 yes old never will I come back to this dump.
This was my first visit to the farm shop and I wasn't disappointed. Lovely little fruit and veg section, the meat selection was great, cakes, sausages rolls, frozen sections containing pies and more meat, preserves, milk and much more.To top it off there was a lovely friendly atmosphere inside and it wasn't too busy making it a pleasant place to shop.
Best pork pies as advertised not in a hells chance burgers yes fridges need replacing more light in and around the shop staff though very helpful and polite
First visit to our local farm shop, ( who needs supermarkets when you can purchase everything in this Shop? ) Staff were super helpful, only wish I'd had longer to browse, just picked up a few items but I could have easily stayed longer and purchased a weekly shop...can't wait to return 😀
Absolutely shambolic place to visit, the owner is an arrogant man, wife's no better. If the owner treat his customers like he treats his staff, there would be no one left to buy his produce.Me and my family will never ever shop at this establishment again.
Would rate it 0 stars if there was an option but there isn'tJust a warning to people out there looking for a jobIf anyone sees an advertisement for jobs going at Blue Hill Farm or C&J Ives I definitely wouldn't reccomenend there...My partner had gone in for an interview a couple of weeks ago and didn't hear anything for a few days, so he rang up to see if he was successful or not... they told him to go in for a trial shift the following week, which he did and that they would let him know if he had the job or not on the Sunday...They rang him on the Sunday to say that he was successful and he had the job... they asked him how much notice he had to give at his current job which was 3 weeks... they asked him if he could shorten it or work any days in between his notice... so on his days off from his current job he went to work at Blue Hill farm... he did a total of 3 shifts all togetherHe was meant to start his new job at Blue hill farm on 28th of May 2024... the owner had the cheek to ring him on the Friday 24th of May at 7.30pm and left a voicemail saying "we've done some research, you can't do my job" after telling him he had the job and him handing his notice in already...My partner then rang up Blue Hill farm on 26/05 as he didn't see the voicemail until late on 25/05... he asked the owner what was going on and he turned round and said "don't you understand English, you haven't got the job" and then put the phone down on him at that point they had left him jobless because his old job couldn't take him back because they had a new chef starting, they didn't care that he had a mortgage to pay and a young family... they owe him £318.75 for the 3 days he worked in between his notice...My partner tried his best on the 3 days he worked, he slaved his arse off to prove that he was a worthy employee, he was cleaning the bins and fridges, which didn't look like they had been cleaned for months, he did most of the cooking himself, the washing up and cleaning the tables in the cafeteria whilst other members of staff were stood around talking and on their phones. So this is just a warning if you see a job advertisement please don't apply there because the male owner "Cernall Ives" is very rude, disrespectful and a massive racist.I actually noticed other reviews on Google, the day after he was told he didn't have the job anymore... and its a good job that this kind of happened because if he would have started working there and a few months later he turned round and said that he had to leave because his daughter was poorly in hospital, they probably would have turned round to him and said don't bother coming back tomorrow and sacked him... because looking at the reviews, a man was sacked because he attended a funeral and a woman got told she didn't have the job anymore because she couldn't work fathers day... absolutely disgustingPlus I wouldn't eat from there neither, don't understand how they have a 3 star rating, when nothing is labelled in the fridges and there is out of date food sat in the fridgesTo leave a young man without a job when he hasn't done anything wrong and you can't provide an explanation to what he has done wrong when he has a 1 year old daughter at home and a mortgage to pay is absolutely disgusting...If you search Blue hill farm on Google and go to reviews and then filter it to lowest, you will see the amount of reviews that are negativeSo please don't anyone make the same mistake as what my partner did, because its really not a nice position to be in...This place should definitely be investigated
Went mainly to access the play area. Kids had a good time. The food was reasonably priced too. The staff at the food section were friendly. There was an elderly man who was sitting outside the farm (who I believe is associated with this farm shop), he was asking where we are from and when we are leaving the country etc which was weird. The play area could do with some maintenance. The karts are coin operated.
A great place to visit to view the animals. Parking is plentiful. There's a large area at the end of the farm shop that's a play area (it was closed because a private birthday party was in full swing 😄). The farm shop part looked well stocked on the meat counter but we didn't stay because we'd called in to buy a sandwich (if they do sell them they'd all gone but it was a lovely day weather wise and Easter Saturday - hence the busy areas.) do call in it lovely and there's a massive fishing area too.
Good place for the kids to let off steam.Think if I was on the reception I would need ear protection! The farm shop,as always, serves nothing but good meat.Sirlon,Brisket and Barnsley Chops, great value.
Really good dog food. If you have a dog with gastric issues, look no further. Hope the recipe never gets changed! From perfect stool to lush fur- head to toe!
Been attending this place for years to purchase dog food, usually really good and friendly, however 1 worker showed unprofessional behaviour and attitude towards paying customers and would refuse to exchange or even refund an incorrect item i had purchased at the same time, accusing us of lying, however was quick to charge us £75 for the whole purchase! Items in the fridge were incorrectly labelled- not sure how that is the customers fault? Would not recommend any more. unprofessionalism at its finest.
Main business is a farm shop, but we just needed somewhere to let the grandson go wild and this was reccomende. We didn't try the farm shop. Just the kids play area and cafe.Cheap and cheerful. If you want somewhere dry to let the kids run off some energy this is the place. You can also get a cuppa and something to eat but don't expect airs and graces. Anything with chips is the order of the day. The home cooked stuff looked good, might try it next time.
Blue Hills we have used for about 9 years. Superb service great value and staff are fabulous. Plus they remember us. Meat n veg are second to none. Home made produce is award winning . We now shop for us and two sons plus a daughter. Added to fresh farm produce kids ca see n pet animals and as if that's not enough they have a play area for the kids...while having a brew sandwich cake.... simply awesome. We travel about60 miles round trip. And worth it many times over
Absolutely brilliant. Visited with my baby and friends, we sat downstairs at first while we played in the big play area. Then when lunch came we went upstairs to the baby/toddler play area and which was much better. We also had lunch here which was so well priced. The staff are so friendly. This place is absolutely perfect for a well priced dayout. The only suggest I’d have is directions to your play area as I wandered into the farm shop and got a bit lost.
£5 plus stay and play all day for each child. There are different areas for ages and there is a cafe upstairs, farm shop and parking. I'll take more pictures next time. Not open on a Monday every week.Been today on the 7th may and i could not take any pictures too busy. £5 each for the kids and 50p for each adult. There is no lift for the cafe only stairs. The only problem there is if you have different ages you can't watch them all in different areas. The pictures are from toddler area. There are 3 levels to this playgym. When you leave there is a farm shop.
